Rethinking Local Housing Affordability
Exploring policy and community-led approaches to making housing accessible without displacing existing residents.
Housing affordability has become a defining challenge in communities across the country. Rising costs are pushing out long-term residents, limiting economic mobility, and straining public services. Yet many proposed solutions — from large-scale development to rent controls — come with significant trade-offs that are rarely examined honestly. This proposal explores a range of approaches: community land trusts, inclusionary zoning, non-market housing models, and targeted supply measures. We are actively seeking input from residents, housing workers, planners, and policymakers who understand this problem from the inside.
